چکیده

The subject of this PhD thesis is the study of the impact of the nonlinearity in the performance of an optical telecom system. In particular the FWM phenomenon which is detrimental in WDM systems is analyzed theoretically and numerically, while various methods are proposed for its compensation. Finally the stability of nonlinear soliton pulses in CROWs is proposed in order to realize compact optical delay lines.

All-Optical Reconfigurable-Tunable 1×N Power Splitter Using Soliton Breakup

In this paper, we numerically simulated a glass-based all-optical 1×N power splitter with eleven different configurations using soliton breakup in a nonlinear medium. It is shown that in addition to reconfigurability of the proposed splitter, its power splitting ratio is tunable up to some extent values too. Nonlinear semivectorial iterative finite difference beam propagation method (IFD-...

Modeling of Negative Influences at the Signal Transmission in the Optical Medium

1. Introduction Nowadays, an interest in the signal transmission through optical fibers rapidly increases due to the transmission bandwidth. The increasing of optical high-speed data rates in transmission systems leads to limitations caused by linear and nonlinear effects. Each nonlinear effect limits different part of optical signals (e.g. amplitude, phase, frequency and polarization). It is n...

Analytical Study of Optical Bi-Stability of a Single-Bus Resonator Based on InGaAs Micro-Ring Array

In this paper, for the first time to our knowledge, we investigate the optical bi-stability in a compact parallel array of micro- ring resonators with 5μm radius, induced by optical nonlinearity. Due to the nature of perfect light confinement, resonance and accumulation process in a ring resonator, optical nonlinear effects, even at small optical power of a few milliwatts in this structure are ...

Routing and Wavelength Assignment Incorporating the Effects of Crosstalk Enhancement by Fiber Nonlinearity

In all-optical networks, signals are propagated through switches with no electrical regeneration. The switches used in all-optical networks are prone to signal leaking; due to the absence of electrical regeneration, these leaked signals, called crosstalk signals, may therefore propagate through hundreds to several thousands of kilometers. Crosstalk may be enhanced by fiber nonlinearities during...

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...
